Deaf in all its Beautiful Shades

David Stuckless recently wrote an interesting essay about some of the many ways D/deaf people define deafness.  You can check it out at DeafDC, under the title ”What’s in a label and how does it affect your dream?”   My favorite quote from this essay: “Deafness isn’t a state of hearing, it’s where your heart is.”

How can we all help ensure that the Gallaudet community, and the deaf community generally, are more accepting of people who define their Deaf/deaf identities in many different ways?

[Please consider submitting your own essays or stories for publication at ReunifyGally! They should be related in some way to healing or reunifying the Gallaudet community after the protests.  See http://reunifygally.wordpress.com/guidelines-for-guest-bloggers/ for details.  Essays can be submitted to me at ashettle[@]patriot.net  … remove the brackets from around the @ sign.]
